CAVEAT: This blog article contains language that is extremely offensive and rooted in hate. While we’ve deleted the names of the targeted schools and the Nazi hate-based imagery used, we haven’t censored any of the weaponized language used, which was sent to two Canadian schools. Our intent is to ensure our followers understand the serious escalating frequency of targeted online hate faced by our schools and students. It underscores the critical necessity of promptly alerting law enforcement if such messages are received by schools, teenagers, and parents.
In a recent article we published, we highlighted findings from a newly released 2024 report by Stats Canada, revealing that a concerning 25% of adolescents aged 12 to 17 have experienced cyber-related hate crimes online.(1) These incidents encompass various forms of targeted harassment and threats of violence, which can deeply affect the mental well-being and self-esteem of our youth.
This week we were contacted by a Canadian school who was looking for guidance given they were identified, targeted, and tagged in a “public” social media posting – here’s the message that was posted:
A.F.A (with swastika)
ANTI FAGGOT ACTION
“Do you really want to live in a town with homosexuals everywhere? No. no one does. We as parents, teens, and maybe even some children are SICK of seeing gays everywhere. If we want to do something about this we have to take action. We must start a Neo-Nazi movement in our city to rid of any lgbtq belongings. This is a list of schools that will see consequences of keeping pride flags in their school”
The primary content of this message is obviously rooted in hate. However, the further smaller text located below the above noted text block was extremely concerning to us which said:
“If I don’t see a change in this, we will start assaulting kids. The rise of RIX3D is now. SEIG HEIL”
This statement is deeply alarming, crossing a significant legal line, and we believe constitutes a serious criminal offence in Canada – “Uttering a Threat”(2) and possibly “Public Incitement of Hatred”(3). We suspect that the “kids” referenced would likely be the LGBTQ+ youth attending the targeted schools.
With our encouragement and guidance, law enforcement has now been notified and have initiated a substantial investigation. Despite the individual(s) behind the message believing they are anonymous, there are indications that a digital trail may assist authorities in identifying who they are!
The rise of what Canadian law enforcement calls, “Ideological Motivated Violent Extremist Groups” is a real concern. (4) and something that every parent, caregiver, and educators need to be alive to – and YES, our schools have now become targets. If such a message is posted and or sent to your school or family, contact the police IMMEDIATELY.
We fight these groups by exposing their message to the public eye, preventing them from hiding in obscurity, and by engaging law enforcement. Ignoring these types of online messages just empowers these ideological motivated violent extremist individuals and groups.
We must also ensure that politicians globally, who embolden these factions with their subtle signals to furthering their political agenda, are held accountable. How can we achieve this? By utilizing the powerful democratic instrument of the ballot box – VOTE! By not voting, these groups wield political influence through their voting block, enabling ideological motivated violent extremist individuals and groups to advance their agenda.
We can’t stand idly by and claim that ideological motivated violent extremist groups and individuals are no longer a threat to Canadians – they pose a clear and immediate danger to us and our kids, especially those who identify as LGBTQ+, and will continue to gain momentum if we don’t use the resources that we have available to fight back!
Screen Capture, Document, and Report To Law Enforcement Immediately, and don’t forget to VOTE!!!
