Did You Know That Youth Can Bypass Netflix Parental Controls

January 3, 2024

Most parents and caregivers know that Netflix contains content that is not necessarily suitable for younger viewers. To help families restrict such content, Netflix has created parental controls to help minimize this risk. However, youth seem to have an innate ability to outsmart even the most advanced technological safeguards, if there is a way to bypass parental controls, they will find it and share it with others via their social media platforms. One such example is the discovery that a Netflix account can have up to five profiles, providing a sneaky workaround for curious kids seeking unrestricted access to content.

Some savvy youngsters have caught on to the fact that a Netflix account can host up to five profiles. If a family has only utilized four or fewer profiles, a child can use the extra slot(s) to create a new account, effectively sidestepping any rating restrictions parents may have diligently set up. The ingenious part? They can watch whatever they please and then discreetly delete the account after use.

Fortunately, parents can stay ahead of these cunning maneuvers by employing a strategic countermeasure. The key lies in filling the open profile slots with “Mock-Up” profiles, each assigned a secure passcode. By doing so, parents can create a protective barrier that prevents unauthorized access to these slots, leaving kids stumped in their attempts to exploit the system.

Also, Netflix, being aware of the need for enhanced parental control, has implemented a feature that can further fortify your account against unauthorized profile creation. By requiring a PIN# to add new profiles, parents can take an additional step in ensuring that their children adhere to the established content restrictions.

Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Add a PIN to your account (1)
  2. Using a web browser, go to your Account page.
  3. Under Profile & Parental Controls, click the main account profile (the one at the top).
  4. Next to Profile Lock, click Change.
  5. Enter your Netflix account password.
  6. Check the box to Require PIN to add new profiles, then click Save.

By activating this setting, parents can rest easier, knowing that they have added an additional layer of security. In the ongoing game of technological cat and mouse between parents and tech-savvy kids, staying one step ahead is crucial. The Netflix profile trick may be a clever workaround, but armed with the knowledge of how to fill profile slots with secure “Mock-Up” profiles and requiring a PIN# for new additions, parents can maintain a more secure and controlled streaming environment for their children.
