Remember, it is not about how much time our kids are spending online - it’s what they are doing with that time online that is most important. Here are four ideas to help youth become online creators rather than just consumers:

Learn How To Design Their Own Website /Blog For Free:

Building a personal website and blog is an excellent way to leverage their digital dossier online in a positive way.  It is also a great way for teens to start creating a positive digital resume that they can control for college, university, sports, and employment opportunities.

  • Google Sites

Learn How To Create A Podcast For Free:

Creating a podcast, where youth can promote their interests and hobbies is another way to create a positive digital resume for college, university, sport, and employment opportunities

Learn How to Code:

Coding is one of the most sought-after and in-demand skill sets with employers across Canada.  If a teen can learn how to code Python, C++, HTML, and JavaScript then by the time they graduate high school, there are companies that will hire them on the spot for part-time or full-time employment.

Learn how to Create AI prompts:

With the ever-increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI), learning how to create AI prompts (also known as prompt engineering) will become a more desirable and in-demand skill in the future. Think of prompt engineering like coding with words

A great supplemental skill that youth can learn online to help increase productivity with the above noted – learn how to type

Parent/Caregiver Note:

We would suggest that working with your child to incorporate the above-noted would be an excellent way to digitally bond with your child in a participatory process. Learn together!
