Kiegan began using technology and social media in middle school, which sparked his interest in coding and digital animation. Through self-teaching via social media platforms like YouTube, Kiegan honed his skills, leading to his acceptance into the prestigious Vancouver Film School’s intensive 12-month 3D animation program, even before graduating high school. His acceptance into the program came while he was still in Grade 11, showcasing the potential for a bright future in 3D animation.
Kiegan’s parents, whom we know well, effectively guided his use of technology. They prioritized being responsible parents over being best friends when it came to his tech and social media usage. They ensured he had age-appropriate and supervised reasonable access to technology from a young age. It wasn’t about “no” technology, it was all about “know technology”. It wasn’t about “delay is the way” it was all about “pave the way” via digital literacy, age-appropriate access, and age-appropriate use of technology, and good onlife parenting that provided Kiegan with the opportunities that led to his successes thus far. Kiegan’s future as a professional 3D animation creator looks extremely promising!
