Explosive USB Drives!

As we all know, plugging random USB drives into your computer is never a good idea. Unfortunately, this practice has become even riskier, as hackers have started using it as a strategy to deliver not only bad virus programs but also explosives.

Recently, journalists in Ecuador fell victim to mailed USB flash drives that were packed with activated explosive material. Although half of the explosive substance went off, thankfully no one was seriously injured.

In addition to these explosive USB drives, there are also USB Kill drives available online for around $100. While they may not contain explosives, they deliver a massive jolt of electrical charge that can fry your device upon plugging in.

While the chances of receiving an explosive or USB Kill drive are unlikely, it’s worth noting that scammers have previously mailed out malware-filled USB data drives disguised as Best Buy customer appreciation gifts and fake Microsoft Office programs.

To ensure your safety, we recommend being cautious and avoiding plugging in any unfamiliar USB drives. For more helpful tips on digital literacy, check out our other videos from The White Hatter. Stay safe, and have fun!
